Workout Troubleshooting
Solutions for common workout and control issues.
Treadmill Won't Start
Problem
Press START button but treadmill doesn't begin.
Solutions
1. Enable Treadmill Control - Settings > Treadmill Control - Toggle Enable Treadmill Control ON - Accept liability waiver - Try START again
2. Check Connection - Verify treadmill is connected (name shown at top) - If disconnected, reconnect first - Cannot start without connection
3. Treadmill Must Be Idle - Treadmill should be powered on but not running - Stop any workout on treadmill panel first - Wait for idle state
4. Exit Passive Mode - If blue "PASSIVE MODE" button shown - Stop workout from treadmill panel - Let treadmill return to idle - Start via app next time
5. Restart App - Close app completely - Reopen and reconnect - Try START again
Cannot Control Speed/Incline
Problem
Speed and incline sliders don't respond or don't change treadmill.
Solutions
1. Control Must Be Enabled - Settings > Treadmill Control must be ON - Without control, sliders are read-only
2. Not in Passive Mode - If treadmill started from panel, you're in Passive Mode - Cannot control in Passive Mode - Stop workout, start via app instead
3. Wait for Response - Some treadmills are slow to respond (3-5 seconds) - Don't make multiple adjustments quickly - Wait for current adjustment to complete
4. Check Physical Limits - Treadmill may be at max speed/incline - Cannot exceed treadmill's capabilities - Check Settings > About for treadmill ranges
5. Reconnect - Disconnect from treadmill - Reconnect - Try controlling again
Speed/Incline Limits Seem Wrong
Problem
The speed or incline sliders have incorrect maximum values (too high or too low compared to your treadmill's actual capabilities).
Why This Happens
When connecting to your treadmill, the app automatically discovers your treadmill's maximum speed and incline capabilities. This "capability discovery" process queries the treadmill's firmware to learn its limits.
Sometimes this process can fail or return incorrect values due to: - Bluetooth interference during connection - Treadmill firmware not responding to capability queries - Connection timing issues
Solutions
1. Reconnect to Treadmill - Disconnect from the treadmill - Wait a few seconds - Reconnect - the app will re-discover capabilities - Check if limits are now correct
2. Move Closer During Connection - Stay within 3-6 feet of treadmill while connecting - Reduces Bluetooth interference - Improves capability discovery reliability
3. Power Cycle Treadmill - Turn treadmill completely off - Wait 10 seconds - Turn back on - Reconnect from app
4. Check Actual Limits - Go to Settings > About - View discovered max speed and max incline - Compare with your treadmill's specifications - If values don't match, try reconnecting
Note on Fallback Values
If capability discovery fails completely, the app uses obviously incorrect fallback values to make the failure visible: - Max speed: 7.77 km/h - This unusual value signals that capability reading failed - Max incline: 0% - Assumes no incline support as a safe default
If you see these values in Settings > About, it means capability discovery didn't work. Reconnecting usually resolves this.
Stats Not Updating
Problem
Distance, speed, or other stats stuck or not changing.
Solutions
1. Check Connection - Verify still connected (name at top of screen) - If disconnected, reconnect - Stats only update when connected
2. Treadmill Must Be Running - Stats only update when belt is moving - If treadmill idle, stats stay at zero - Start workout to see updates
3. Refresh App - Swipe down on main screen (pull to refresh, if available) - Or close and reopen app - Reconnect to treadmill
4. Treadmill Sensor Issue - Some stats come from treadmill sensors - If sensors malfunctioning, stats may not update - Check treadmill display - if it's not updating, sensor issue
Heart Rate Shows "N/A"
Problem
Heart rate stat card shows "N/A" or blank.
Solutions
1. Hands on Sensors - Place both hands on metal handlebar sensors - Maintain firm but relaxed grip - Don't grip too tightly
2. Wait for Stabilization - Takes 30-60 seconds to get stable reading - Be patient, keep hands on sensors - Watch for BPM to appear
3. Clean Sensors - Wipe handlebar sensors with damp cloth - Sweat and oil reduce accuracy - Dry thoroughly before use
4. Treadmill Must Have HR Sensors - Not all treadmills have heart rate sensors - Check treadmill manual - If no sensors, HR will always show "N/A"
5. Adjust Stabilization Settings - Settings > Advanced > Heart Rate Stabilization - Increase BPM threshold (less strict) - Increase timeout (more time to stabilize)

Workout Not Saving
Problem
Completed workout doesn't appear in History.
Solutions
1. Check Workout Duration - Must be ≥15 seconds to save - Shorter workouts are discarded automatically - This prevents clutter from accidental starts
2. Wait a Few Seconds - Workout saves after STOP pressed - Give it 2-5 seconds - Then check History tab
3. Check History Tab - Workouts appear at top (newest first) - Scroll to verify it's not below older workouts
4. Cloud Sync Delay - If cloud sync enabled, may take moment to sync - Check again after a minute - Or force sync from the cloud sync section in Settings
Program Won't Run
Problem
Selected program but it won't start or execute properly.
Solutions
1. Control Must Be Enabled - Programs require treadmill control - Settings > Treadmill Control must be ON - Cannot run programs in read-only mode
2. Not in Passive Mode - Cannot run programs in Passive Mode - Stop treadmill from panel - Let it return to idle - Start program via app
3. Verify Program Selected - Check program dropdown shows program name (not "Free-Run") - If showing "Free-Run", select program again from Programs tab
4. Check Program is Valid - Program must have at least one segment - Segments must have valid speed/incline values - Edit program if needed
Speed/Incline Jumping Around
Problem
Speed or incline shows unstable, fluctuating values.
Solutions
1. Check Connection Stability - Move phone closer to treadmill - Remove obstacles between phone and treadmill - Check Bluetooth interference
2. Treadmill Sensor Issue - May be actual treadmill malfunction - Check treadmill's own display - If also jumping, treadmill needs service
3. Restart Connection - Disconnect from treadmill - Close app - Power cycle treadmill - Reconnect
Countdown Never Starts
Problem
Press START but countdown (3-2-1) doesn't begin.
Solutions
1. Already Running - Check if treadmill is already running - If so, countdown won't occur - Press STOP first, then START
2. Passive Mode - Blue "PASSIVE MODE" means treadmill in control - Stop from panel, restart from app
3. Control Disabled - Check treadmill control is enabled - Settings > Treadmill Control > ON
4. Connection Lost - Verify still connected to treadmill - Reconnect if needed
Program Segments Not Transitioning
Problem
Program stuck on one segment, doesn't advance.
Solutions
1. Check Segment Type - Time-based: Advances when time completes - Distance-based: Advances when distance completes - Verify you're making progress (belt moving)
2. Distance Not Tracking - If distance-based segment stuck, distance may not be updating - Check treadmill distance sensor - Try time-based segments instead
3. Connection Issue - Program requires constant connection - If connection unstable, transitions may fail - Ensure stable Bluetooth connection
Calories Seem Wrong
Problem
Calorie count seems inaccurate.
Solutions
1. Understand the Two Calorie Sources - Treadmill-reported: The value your treadmill calculates internally - HR-estimated (Premium): A personalized estimate based on your heart rate, weight, sex, and age — shown as the primary value when an HR monitor is connected
These two values will often differ. The HR-based estimate accounts for your individual effort level and is generally considered more accurate.
2. Update Health Profile - Calories calculated using weight, sex, and age - Refresh your health profile in Settings - Ensure your health profile has accurate data
3. Calorie Estimation Varies - Calories are estimates, not exact measurements - ±10-20% variance is normal - Different methods give different results
4. Try HR-Based Estimation - Connect a Bluetooth HR monitor for more personalized calorie tracking - Requires Premium subscription and a completed health profile

Steps Reset to Zero
Problem
Step count drops to zero mid-workout.
Solutions
Don't worry - this is normal!
- Many treadmills reset step counter at 9999
- Treadmill Assistant detects this and corrects automatically
- Final workout history will show correct total steps
- Visual bug only, data is accurate
Screen Keeps Turning Off
Problem
phone screen dims or locks during workout.
Solutions
Enable Screen Lock: 1. Settings > Workout Screen Lock 2. Toggle Keep Screen On During Workouts ON 3. Screen stays on while workout is running
Alternative: - Increase phone's Auto-Lock time - Increase your device's auto-lock/screen timeout setting - Note: Applies everywhere, not just during workouts
