Garmin FIT Export
Share your finished workouts as a Garmin-compatible FIT file instead of the app's plain text export code — so you can import them into Garmin Connect, Strava, and other training platforms.
Experimental / in testing
This is a newer export path that's still being refined. It lives in the experimental section of Settings, and its behavior may change between updates.
All platforms · Opt-in
Works on both iPhone and Android. It's off by default — turn it on in Settings when you want it.
What it does
When enabled, swiping a saved workout to share it produces a .fit file rather than copying the text export code. The FIT file is a standard fitness-data format that most training platforms understand:
- Import into Garmin Connect, Strava, and similar services that accept FIT uploads.
- Carries your workout's time, distance, speed, heart rate, and summary metrics.
When the toggle is off, sharing keeps the original behavior — it copies a text export code for the workout to your clipboard, which you can paste wherever you like to share or keep a record of it.
Caveats — please read first
- It replaces the copy-code share while on. With FIT export enabled, the swipe-to-share action gives you a file to send to another app, not the text code. Turn it off if you want the code again.
- Cadence is summary-only for now. Exported FIT files currently include an average cadence; a per-second max cadence isn't recorded yet. Other metrics (distance, speed, heart rate, duration) are complete.
- Import behavior varies by platform. How a FIT file appears (activity type, naming) depends on the service you import into, not on Treadmill Assistant.
Enabling it
- Open the Settings tab (gear icon).
- Find the Experimental Features section and expand it.
- Under Garmin, turn on FIT File Export.
Now, on the workout history screen, swipe a workout and share it to send the FIT file.
Troubleshooting
The share sheet still copies a code
Problem: Sharing a workout copies text instead of offering a file.
Solution: Confirm FIT File Export is turned on under Settings → Experimental Features → Garmin. The setting applies to shares made after it's enabled.
Garmin Connect / Strava won't import the file
Problem: The training platform rejects or ignores the file.
Solutions:
- Make sure you're uploading the
.fitfile itself (not a screenshot or the text code). - Use the platform's manual "upload activity / import file" flow.
- Some platforms only accept uploads from the web uploader rather than the mobile app.
